a. (1) What is the Publisher ID? The Pubisher ID is: 40

b. When I try to open my product Reader tells me that it could not open...because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasnt correctly decoded).

The error is caused when License Manager has not been installed on the computer trying to open the encrypted PDF file. To correct this error, install License Manager and register the product with the appropriate serial number. To install License Manager you can use the version on your CD-ROM located in the /LM folder or download the most current version at: http://www.ForelPublishing.com/downloads/PdfOwnerGuardLM.exe

c. Why does Adobe Reader display a blank page when trying to open my product?

This is generally caused when License Manager has not been installed. If License Manager was not installed during the initial setup, you will need to re-install it by going to: Start>All Programs>Ford Manuals>Your product>Install License Manager

A second situation that will cause a blank Adobe Reader screen is when License Manager is installed but the License Manager pop-up window is hidden behind the Adobe Reader window. Look at the bottom taskbar and click on all the Reader windows.

The screen that should appear is similar to the one below. This window appears when License Manager is installed but the product has not been activated yet.

d. Why does it tell me my Serial Number is not valid?

There are several reasons for this: the Serial Number you are using has already been used the maximum number of times (3) or if you have upgraded or reinstalled your computer operating system, it is possible that the license does not recognize the computer. When that happens, you should contact the publisher and request your serial number to be reset. With a new serial number, you will need to re-activate the product.

e. I am getting a Run-Time Error #94, when I try to open License Manager, what do I do?

This error occurs on a very few operation systems and has been corrected with a newer version of License Manager. To correct this problem, simply download and install the latest version of License Manager. Download the most current version at: http://www.ForelPublishing.com/downloads/PdfOwnerGuardLM.exe

f. Why can I no longer open my product?

If you have upgraded or reinstalled your computer operating system, it is possible that the license does not recognize the computer. When that happens, you should contact the publisher and request your serial number to be reset. With a new serial number, you will need to re-activate the product.

g. How do I correct a corrupted Adobe Reader?

This can happen when Adobe Reader is not fully installed on your computer or if your Adobe Reader installation is corrupted.

Solution:

1. Uninstall the Adobe Reader currently installed on your computer

2. Download the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

3. Re-install Adobe Reader

4. Make sure that the reader is installed with the option to open documents in a Web Browser

5. Please make sure you reboot every time an install or uninstall procedure requests it. Skipping reboots can result in corrupted configurations.

h. My printers are not visible or Why can't I print to my wirelss printer?

The manual will print to physically connected printers via the LPT or USB port. It will also print to most wireless network printers. However, it will not print virtual printers or a PDF printer driver (virtual printer).

This limitation was imposed to prevent internet pirates from first buying a legal copy, but then simply printing our manuals to a "PDF printer driver" to capture its contents for illegal resale. Prior to this limitation we had internet pirates steal copies of our new releases within a week of their debut.
If the software does not recognize your printer, we can usually generate a special license for you to correct this problem.

i. Can I run both Adobe Acrobat and Reader on the same computer?

Yes, you can. Please see the Adobe Tech Support article regarding this issue at: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/333/333223.html

j. My anti-virus software alerted on the License Manager file LockPDFu.dll; is this a virus?

No! LockPDFu.dll is one of the files used by License Manager and is not a virus or potentially harmful file. The makers of License Manager have reported this "false positiveā€ alert to the anti-virus software makers. For example, Trend Micro Anti-virus originally issued a false positive but has since updated their database. Panda Anti-Virus is known to prevent License Manager from functioning. Users of Panda may need to disable/suspend Panda to view our protected PDF files.

k. I do not see my problem listed in this Readme, how do I get more information?

The Readme files are routinely updated to provide the latest information. To get the latest Readme file go to: http://www.ForelPublishing.com/downloads/Readme.pdf

l. How do I get further assistance?

If the above information did not help you with the problem you encounter, or for any other questions, please contact the publisher via email: sales@FordManuals.com

m. Will these products work with Windows 7?

Yes, however depending on the version of Window 7, you may need to run License manager in the "compatibility mode". To do this, right click the license manager icon on the desktop, chose Properties, then Compatibility and set it to run in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode.

n. The information below was taken directly from the Trend Micro website. You may also go to the following URL: http://esupport.trendmicro.com/Pages/How-do-I-prevent-the-Real-time-Protection-of-Trend-Micro-Inter-EN-1038318.aspx
o. How do I correct a Run-Time Error with Windows 7 and License Manager v11.3.1?
It seems that your computer system has disabled one of windows essential services called "Windows Management Instrumentation" - Open services in administrative tools or run services.msc - Set "Windows Management Instrumentation" start up type to Automatic and click ok.

p. Why does Adobe Reader X stop responding or freezes with Windows XP? This is a problem with Adobe Reader X. The following information is from the Adobe forum located at: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3405046 The solution to this freezing is to right-click on the AcroRd32.exe and choose Properties. Next, select Compatible Mode and select Compatible Mode > Run Program in Compatible Mode for your operating system (example Windows 2000). Click on OK and start the exe or a pdf.
q. Adobe Reader Portable Version. At times there are compatibility problems between PDF OwnerGuard License Manager and with new releases of Adobe Reader. Another option is to download and install a version that has no known compatibility issues. Please download and install the Reader version from the URL below:
After download, do the following:
1) Unzip the file to a temporary directory/folder
2) A new folder called /Adobe Reader 8.1.0 will be created
3) Double-Click the file AcroRd32.exe to open Reader
4) Open the manual directly from Reader (example of location on hard drive)
- File>Open>
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ford Manuals\1965 Ford Car Shop Manual\Manual

r. I get a message that my product can't find Adobe Reader, even though I have Reader installed and can read PDF files with it.

This either means that you have an old version of Adobe Reader or that the version you have was not fully installed and is not properly registered with Windows. This can happen even if you can open a PDF file from within Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat. The solution is to uninstall the Adobe Reader currently installed on your computer, download the latest version of Adobe Reader from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ and reinstall it.
